  • Position: Parent Representative Navigator
    • Description: The Public Defender Corporation for the 2nd Judicial Circuit (main office located in Moundsville) has a vacancy for the new position of Parent Representative Navigator (PRN). This position is funded through SSA Title IVe funds and will continue contingent on ongoing funding. The PRN reports directly to the public defender and is employed by the Public Defender Corporation. The PRN is responsible for working with public defender clients charged in Child Abuse/Neglect cases to support the parents in meeting their goals and reunifying with their children where possible. The PRN will communicate, engage, and motivate represented parents towards participation and completion of their case plan, and enhance communication, collaboration, and comprehension between defense attorney and parent. The PRN will also provide supportive information to the represented parent so they will be better equipped to proactively engage in their Child Abuse/Neglect case and reunification process. The PRN will also support and enhance communication between parent and Child Protective Services Worker, Guardian Ad Litem, and any other persons within the case. The PRN will assist the parent in calendaring, scheduling important dates and events, and navigating attendance at events. The PRN will locate and enroll the parent in proper services, attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, and court hearings for ongoing support as needed for the benefit of the parent and at the direction of the public defender.

  • Position: Assistant Public Defender (Weirton office)
    • Description: The Public Defender Corporation for the First Judicial Circuit of West Virginia has an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Public Defender in the Corporation’s Weirton office. Assistant Public Defenders represent indigent clients at the trial court and appellate stages in the following proceedings: criminal, extradition, probation and parole, contempt, juvenile, and abuse and neglect. Salary depends upon experience and available funding. Benefits may include pension as well as medical and life insurance.

  • Position: Peer Recovery Coach
    • Description: The Public Defender Corporations for the 1st and 2nd Judicial Circuits of West Virginia (Wheeling, Weirton, and Moundsville offices) have a vacancy for the position of Recovery Coach. This position will take referrals from and travel between the offices in the 1st and 2nd Circuit Public Defender Corporations. The Recovery Coach’s primary responsibility is to use lived experience and recovery coach training to aid clients charged with criminal offenses in finding substance use treatment when appropriate for their legal needs and requirements and to support these clients in their recovery.
    • Qualifications: Recovery coach or peer recovery training certificate; must be in sustained recovery from a substance use disorder for a minimum of twelve (12) months; High School diploma or equivalent; basic computer skills; general knowledge of the criminal justice system; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

8th Judicial Circuit (McDowell County)

  • Position: Parent Representative Navigator

  • Position: Assistant Public Defender​
    • Description: Position available immediately in McDowell County for Assistant Public Defender to provide representation of indigent persons in abuse & neglect, felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile cases, mental hygiene, habeas corpus and appeals, and other trial proceedings. Must be a licensed member of the West Virginia State Bar.  Computer skills and ability to follow office policies/procedures are required.

  • Position: Staff Attorney (Marlinton office)
    • Description: The 11th Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation has an opening for an attorney in the Marlinton, Pocahontas County, West Virginia office. The salary is $60,000 based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include PEIA (State) health insurance and State Public Employees retirement. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in the State of West Virginia or be eligible for admission by reciprocity to WV.   • Position: Staff Attorney (Lewisburg office)
    • Description: The 11th Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation has an opening for an attorney in the Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, West Virginia office. The salary is up to $52,000 based on qualifications and experience. The position includes representing indigent defendants in criminal cases and representing parents and children in juvenile matters. Benefits include State he​alth insurance and State retirement. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in the State of West Virginia or eligible for admission. A hybrid/partially remote work schedule is possible.

    • Description: The Kanawha County Public Defender Office is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time assistant public defender. Experience is preferred but not required. 17th Judicial Circuit (Monongalia County)

  • Position: Office Manager
    • Decsription: Accountable to the Public Defender as well as the Board of Directors. Responsible for assisting with all clerical, support and personnel management needs of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation.

This position will also work with  public defender clients from the 6th and 24th Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corpora​tions in Cabell and Wayne Counties.
