The following resources are available to help Appointed Counsel attorneys navigate the Online Voucher System (OVS) and an array of resources to consult, particularly if you are new to or do not specialize in criminal law. Please consult the following web pages and take advantage of the materials provided.

Attorney Resources - This page contains a comprehensive list of resources for attorneys, including information on crafting a defense, sentencing and post-conviction, drug court, and more. Some examples of these resources are listed below: 

  • Orientation Packet - Includes orientation information on the Voucher System, PDS's Social Service Resource Guide, a Client Intake Form, and a Contact List for newly Appointed Counsel 
  • Motions Bank - The Motions Bank contains a list of templates for frequently used motions in criminal proceedings, such as a Motion for Reduction of Bail, Motion to Suppress Evidence, and Motion for Separate Trial.
  • Criminal Law Instructions Manual - The Criminal Law Instructions Manual for the State of West Virginia, compiled by Public Defender Services, provides guidance on Jury Instructions and practice tips.
