4th Judicial Circuit (Wood & Wirt counties)
  • Position: Chief Public Defender
    • Description: The Fourth Circuit Public Defender Corporation (Wood and Wirt Counties) is accepting applications for the position of Chief Public Defender.

8th Judicial Circuit (Welch, McDowell County)
  • Position: Assistant Public Defender
    • Description: Position available immediately in McDowell County for Assistant Public Defender to provide representation of indigent persons in abuse & neglect, felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile cases, mental hygiene, habeas corpus and appeals, and other trial proceedings. Must be a licensed member of the West Virginia State Bar.  Computer skills and ability to follow office policies/procedures are required.

10th Judicial Circuit (Beckley, Raleigh County)
  • Position: Assistant Public Defender
    • Descrip​tion: Position available immediately in Raleigh County for Assistant Public Defender to provide representation of indigent persons in abuse & neglect, felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile cases, mental hygiene, habeas corpus and appeals, and other trial proceedings. Must be a licensed member of the West Virginia State Bar.  Computer skills and ability to follow office policies/procedures are required.

10th, 11th, and 12th Judicial Circuits
  • ​Position: Peer Recovery Coach
    • Description: The Public Defender Corporation for the Tenth Judicial Circuit of West Virginia has a vacancy for the position of Recovery Coach in the Corporation’s Beckley office. This position will also travel to the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation’s Fayetteville office, as well as the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation’s Lewisburg Office. The Recovery Coach’s primary responsibility is to aid clients charged with criminal offenses in finding substance use treatment when appropriate for their legal needs and requirements and to support these clients in their recovery.
    • Qualifications: Recovery coach or peer recovery training certificate or willingness to undergo such training; must be in sustained recovery from a substance use disorder for a minimum of eighteen (18) months; High School diploma or equivalent; basic computer skills; general knowledge of the criminal justice system; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.  ​

    ​15th, 18th, 17th Judicial Circuits

    • ​Position: Peer Recovery Coach​
      • Description: The Public Defender Corporation for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of West Virginia has a vacancy for the position of Peer Recovery Coach in the Corporation’s Clarksburg office. This position will also travel to the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation in Kingwood, and after October 2021, to the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Corporation in Morgantown. The Recovery Coach’s primary responsibility is to aid adult clients charged with criminal offenses in finding substance use treatment when appropriate for their legal needs and requirements, and to support these clients in their recovery.
      • Qualifications: Recovery coach or peer recovery training certificate or willingness to undergo such training; must be in sustained recovery from a substance use disorder for a minimum of eighteen (18) months; High School diploma or equivalent; basic computer skills; general knowledge of the criminal justice system; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
